An excerpt from my allegorical novel ‘The Cause & The Cure’ highly relevant to today’s solstice and number magic.I had a great time writing this story and the next book I put out will be its sequel, this one set in 2001 at the time of 9/11 and featuring many of the same characters.

Verity looked puzzled for a second but reached into the bag as Drew had asked.
‘How much you spend?”
“£21.60,” Verity replied, reading the receipt.
“When’s your birt’day again?”
“21st June.”
“That’s right. 21/6. There’s a message for you.”
“On a Dorothy Perkins receipt?”
“It’s not just that. You never noticed the registration plate on your car encodes your birthday? Your phone extension number at work is 216, right? You live at 216b Abingdon Road?”
Verity paused to contemplate the apparent “coincidences.”
“Don’t try and tell me these are all coincidences,” Drew quickly protested.
“What does it mean then?”
“These are all messages from the Universe, V, letting you know that you’re on the right path and you’re headed to where you need to be. You just need to keep reading the signs and stay on the path. Your name and your birthdate are no random accident, and Creation can give little reminders of this from time to time. 216 is a beautiful number, and part of a very significant cosmic sequence in Nature.”
Verity needn’t have worried about Drew getting trivial. She gestured with her eyes, giving a look that only black women could give, coercing him wordlessly to elaborate.
“The sequence starts with 27. You double it each time and the numbers always add up or reduce back to nine. It’s the only numerical sequence in Creation that works in this way. So you get 54, then 108, then 216, 432, 864.
“432 Hertz is the harmonic frequency. We should be listening to all of our music pitched to A=432hz,” (he gestured with his spliff hand towards his turntables,) “instead of the devilish 440 that we now have. There are 864,000 seconds in a day - 432,000 for day, and 432,000 for night. You know, Yogic schools teach that all living beings inhale and exhale 21,600 times a day. The Kali Yuga lasts 432,000 years.
“So you see how blessed you are to have a birthdate as part of this sequence, and also at the sun’s ultimate zenith on the Summer Solstice?”
