As the sixth anniversary of the passing of Guru approaches, here's my interview with him from 1999, done spontaneously when I bumped into him shopping for records at Fat Beats in Amsterdam. While the tributes continue to flow for J Dilla, Biggie, Tupac and Jam Master Jay, I feel Guru is very much a forgotten name when it comes to departed hip-hop heroes. His final days in a coma and the dark influence of "super producer" (his words) Solar make his story all the more tragic. But his inspiring words will live on forever through his music. R.I.P Guru.
