NEW RANDOM BATCH OF VINTAGE 1990s RADIO TAPE RIPS
Time for more trainspotter delights. The following are a bunch of recordings from various points in the 90s, (plus a couple from the 80s,) covering mainly Pete Tong and Tim Westwood shows on Capital Radio and early days on Radio 1, but with a few other oddities thrown in. Some of these have appeared on-line before, some are brand new. Either way, take your pick, and enjoy a nostalgic trip back to better days!

AUTHENTIC '96 FLAVAS FROM THE SWING SHIFT, GALAXY 101
A recent forage through the archives produced the following two recordings from the first year of my Swing Shift radio show on Bristol's Galaxy 101. These two are from 1996, and highly representative of the stunningly good R&B and hip hop that was still around that year. (They also stand as a sobering testament to all the soulless garbage that's now being put out under those banners!)
Links have been removed, so all trainspotters can try their hand at identifying the tuneage. As the late Frankie Crocker used to say, 'listen and enjoy'!

CLASSIC DJ LYNX MIX CUT-UPS, GALAXY 101, 1996
I NEVER get tired of hearing this. In all my years of doing radio, this represents my very favourite on-air moments of all. DJ Lynx of the 3PM crew cuts up Camp Lo's 'Luchini' and RZA's take on the 'Incredible Hulk' theme while MCs Krissy Kriss and Kelz spit spontaneous freestyles all the way live. Everything real radio should be, and pure goosebumps nostalgia all the way!

LISTEN TO MD'S 90s THROWBACKS SET, LIVE IN NORTHERN IRELAND
I had an absolutely cracking gig at The Playhouse in Portrush at the weekend, offering an all-too-rare opportunity to drop a classic revivals set at peaktime on a Saturday night. Old school hip hop, some classic house, reggae dancehall and even a little jungle got rinsed! Hit the links below to listen and absorb.

GOOD VIBRATIONS PODCAST VOL. 3: DEAD PREZ
The series that cuts through the BS facade to address what's REALLY going on in the music business moves on to talking to some of the more awakened artists on the scene. Kicking off, who better than M1, frontman of Dead Prez, a group that's never had a problem saying what's on their mind.
He talks to Mark Devlin about the nature of revolutionary music, how it can actually be an asset to big labels, rather than an inconvenience, and asks, if you're an artist but neglecting to address the really important things in life ... are you sure you're really an 'artist'?
Real talk throughout, and some classic Dead Prez music in the mix.

NOTORIOUS B.I.G ORIGINAL TRIBUTE MIX FROM MARCH '97
'Cos the Greatest Rapper of All Time died on March 9th'.
So, it's 15 years today since Biggie's demise, (and still the case remains filed under 'unsolved'!) Here's the tribute mix section I ran on Galaxy 101's Swing Shift back in March 1997 when the news broke - bangers and spine-tinglers throughout.
